These are all of the Minecraft Update Ideas I have posted online, most to my Tumblr. These updates are updates I would really love to see come to Minecraft, and in my opinion would greatly improve the game, especially the FUCKING WEATHER UPDATE ITS BEEN SINCE ALPHA MOJANG MAKE WEATHER LESS OUTDATED IVE WANTED THIS FOR 7 YEARS.
Everything really boils down to "Mojang needs to stop running and adding features to be abandoned and unintegrated, and needs to stop, turn around, and start reworking and integrating the mess of systems and features they dropped into the network." Basically that meme with the dots. Who wants to bet once the Chaos Cubed update comes out the Sulfur Cube system will not be touched for 5 years, all the updates it gets will be adding new blocks into the preexisting preset behaviors.
Note: ZERO natural disasters.
None of these are natural disasters, the concept of a Weather Update being "aDd TorNaDoeS anD HurRicAneS aNd ..." is the main fucking reason weather system has been unchanged since fucking Alpha. Mojang said no Natural Disasters, if everyone things weather update = natural disasters and never proposes anything else, Mojang wont consider looking at the current weather system.
The current weather system is critical infrastructure of Minecraft, and it is perfect, it does exactly what it needs to do, it is so well blended in that nobody thinks about it, which is why it is a perfect candidate to be updated, it has been neglected for decades because it is so good at it's job that while shit as complex as raising the height limit was added, weather was only touched to nerf lightning.
All of these are just my ideas that I personally would find awesome.
The weather system has remained incredibly similar since apparently alpha, even I didnt think it was that long, most changes seem extremely minor, and I believe it is time for an overhaul, especially when the new rendering engine is out.
Overworld:
Instead of 3 weathers, its a gradient from perfectly clear to raging thunderstorm, and the game transitions between them at varying speeds without skipping around, but it could go from clear to thunder very quickly. For example, maybe there's 16 levels of precipitation, lightning only spawns at, say, 12+. The old weathers could maybe be
Clear - 0
Rain - 6 or 8 ig
Thunder - 12 or 13 or smth.
This gives us a lot of play to fill in the gaps with new levels.
Maybe at low levels (1-3) mobs don't even burn, and the light level doesn't go down much.
Use a continuous noise to smoothly transition betwixt the levels
Normal Rainstorm Passing: 0 0 0 1 3 4 4 5 6 8 8 9 8 8 7 5 5 3 2 1 1 1 0 0
Popup Thunderstorm: 0 0 0 0 4 8 11 10 15 12 10 8 6 3 0 0 0
In these example maybe each number is one minute long.
Rename from "rain" and "thunderstorm", because in snow biomes they aren't rain, also because its now a gradient.
Lightning turns sand to glass if struck, lightning doesn't spawn in deserts because no downfall, but during the strongest thunderstorms (such as 16), which are very rare, the deserts will have some rain.
Snow layer parity, including snowlogging and falling. Snowwy leaf parity, java finally gets white leaves. Snow accumulation increases rate at higher levels of precipitation, lightning only spawning at level 16.
Players would be able to sleep to skip any weather levels that allow lightning to spawn.
The game would be able to see the next few levels ahead of time, and might be able to use that in fun ways. Such as farm animals behaving anxiously before a sharp increase in weather (such as going from 2 to 13 in the next minute or two).
Nether:
Give the Nether weather. Because we are starting from scratch and have no previous to build off of, it can easily be as simple as the old Overworld weather system.
The lack of sky is the only major hurdle, but I would wager it can be easily worked around by using volumetric weather, if a block is in the open, and has lines of sight of 5 blocks long, it is effected.
What might Nether Weather be like? Its fantasy, this is ultimate freedom.
Spitballing some ideas:
Ash storm - A very obvious idea, maybe gives poison to any overworld mob caught in it that isn't in a sealed area (an area with zero paths to affected air blocks).
Cold spur - A very un obvious idea that could create very interesting gameplay, the Nether is hellishly hot, so what if its weather could introduce sudden cold spurs that drop the temperature to below boiling, if course to an overworld perspective it is still very very hot, but to a Nether perspective, 60c/140f is frigid.
Firestorm - meh probably too much like a natural disaster.
End Weather:
End flashes are already de facto treated as weather-like by the wiki, lets run with that, with the end being so space like, we could have periods with few flashes, periods with current flash rate, and periods with very frequent, very bright flashes, we could tie it in with the dragon, where the current rate or the zero flashes rate is the only one used while the dragon is alive. Also, end flashes would be parity-fied so that with and without vibrant visuals, they are enabled, by porting Java's to the no vibrant visual Bedrock. It could have effects too, such as Enderman behaving differently during extreme flash periods (theyve never seen that before because the Dragon magically prevented the extreme flash rate as mentioned), to make it truly behave like weather.
Blatant stuff:
- Pathfinding, duh
Village itself:
- One in ten natural villages is a "Large Village". A village is classed as large when it has over 30 villagers, and that tag stays with any village with the population threshold.
-Large Villages when naturally generated always come with: a town hall, a hospital/apothecary (fits better), and one or more watchtowers, oh also a built in generated trading hall with wandering traders and a unique vibe of a chaotic open market.
-Golems only attack Pillagers, Illagers, and Witches that are in a raid, and Pillagers, Illagers, and Witches will only attack villagers and golems during raids.
Stuff I personally want:
-Reformed witches that act as doctors in villages with hospitals, they are not villagers, they have unique systems, such as not being able to change profession or trades, they trade potions.
-Each village biome gets its own villager-sung, thematic music disc, plains, tundra, desert, etc. Lava Chicken disc has villagers singing, thus they have music culture, explore that.
-Reformed Pillagers stationed in watchtowers of villages tagged large, the village is seen paying them for the protection, if the player interferes such that the pillagers stop being paid, or the village drops to below 30 people, the pillagers will simply leave, they will not initiate a raid because that is stupid, these guys just paid you, they could be parters in the future again when the situation improves.
-Seriously fix the fucking pathfinding, how the fuck can villagers not get into my custom house, they cannot figure out how two story buildings work, thats fucking idiotic, these people number in the billions and colonized the entire fucking overworld, how can they not climb stairs.
-Pillager raids on small villages will not have every villager simply cower in their homes, some of them will be seen trying to heal the golem. on large villages, villagers will bring food and weapons to frontline to the defending pillagers, and the defenders will support the golems.
-Pillager raids are improved such that they only spawn on the surface and will avoid going underground or leaving the village.
-Witches will only be hostile to villagers if it is a raider, in a raid, otherwise they will mind each other's business, and maybe even talk a little.
-Visible inter-village relations, if two villages are near each other, they may have paths connecting them. Maybe each village gets a unique generated banner, theres like hundreds of billions of banner combinations.
-A few more occupations.
-Pillager Patrols that enter a village do not attack, instead: 1. If the village is small, or has defenders already, they ignore it. 2. If the village is large, and the village has no defenders, they will negotiate with the village to strike a deal for defence, the village can also decline and the pillagers will just leave.
-Villagers can exit boats, theyre practically humans, they have colonized the overworld and built civilization, they can get out of a boat, also if a villager is not able to sleep, they will raise prices.
-Fucking add the jungle and swamp villages, they have the skins mojang, wth mojang.
-Finally, add zombie sieges to bedrock and make them fit the modern game. Use the Zombie Horse and Zombie Horseman.
This comes from my Bluesky and I added it to the above village update ideas.
Lava Chicken means villagers in Minecraft canonically can sign and make music, and have the ability to make discs.
Now I want a music disc for each biome village, desert villages with a villager singing with desert themed instruments, plains villages with plains village disc, etc
Minecraft's jungle bushes should het their own leaves, when broken, they drop the new bush block, and bushes can be grown into jungle bushes, which would now be called mega bushes.
They can keep using Jungle logs.
Also they could add a new subbiome of forests called Old Growth Forest that has mega bushes.
In Minecraft, Spring To Life added biome variants of every farm animal in Minecraft and Tiny Takeover redesigned every single baby mob, the two also added personalities to various mobs and now each farm animals can have multiple sounds, now that every single common mob in the game is audibly and visibly redesigned, I feel like it is time they update the AI.
I am thinking:
Herding/Flocking, sheep, cows, and chickens now stick together in groups. Fish already do this in game.
Passive lenience, the llama is considered neutral because if you hit it it spits at you and causes half a heart, this is so passive it still does it in peaceful mode, take that out of the neutral category and put it in passive or maybe a new category, and then apply that idea to all the common passive mobs, cows in real life dont book it randomly if you punch it, its gonna use its horns and hooves to crush your ribcage, Minecraft cows should hit back, sheep and pigs can stay purely passive. Chickens should peck and deal a half heart, when a horse kicks you off it should actually kick, donkeys can be an asshole, use this to teach that animals, even if friendly, can still hurt you a bit. This also makes a new category between Passive and Neutral, maybe call it Defensive.
Defense of babies, passive and defensive and neutral mobs will attack mobs that attack their babies, more likely in mobs that flock.
Villagers finally can fucking navigate staircases cmon mojang youre telling me a species that has colonized the entire minecraft world and numbers in the billions and has an economy, cant figure out how my custom two story house works?
Villagers will abandon their passiveness if theres no golem and kids are at stake, if the player kills the golem, and then hits a baby villager, adult villagers will swarm you to get between you and the baby, this one is a stretch i admit.
Maybe take the new personalities into these as well. Eg a grumpy cow is more likely to snap and fight back.
Cats are assholes, add it mojang, its realistic.
Crave of space, animals and people dont like being locked up, i doubt chickens really want to be confined to a one by one by one hole with 50 others in a farm, they will fight each other, especially villagers, if theyre in a trading hall, they will raise the fuck out of their prices, it nerfs trading halls, and increases morals, win win. Also you know damn well your hall has a ton of space you could build it into hotel quality.
Fuckit imma throw my hat into the End Update ring.
DO NOT TOUCH THE ATMOSPHERE, It better feel lifeless and boring, but under the white coat of paint better be a rainbow.
Ideas:
Use the Potato Dimension's world generation in the outer end islands (optional, but there does need to be verticality).
Add an End liquid, Water in the Overworld, Lava in the Nether, [Blank] in the End. Possibly a type of oil, Endoil sounds pretty neat.
Dungeons enderman variants is a given.
Maybe crashed End ships or small ruins structures that have good loot but not as good as End cities.
3 total biomes, no Nether Update level of detail is needed because nobody goes to the End and making it habitable is not necessary, the End is the barren wasteland you cannot survive long term in. Below are some of my personal ideas.
Current End = Chorus Forest, maybe make the chorus trees more dense and add a chorus bush to fill the gaps.
Endoil Pondlands, a land of many endoil ponds.
Endermite Highlands, End Mountain biome that has no enderman but does have endermites, this explains why they hate each other, they rarely interact.
New blocks are also a guarantee. Here are some new blocks I propose be added to the End.
Gravel on Endoil coasts. This has the hilarious benefit of making Bedrock, Air, Obsidian, and fucking Gravel be the only blocks to generate in all three dimensions.
Endoil, Chorus Bush, already aforementioned.
Some kind of alternate terrain block, possibly some islands are made out of, idk, Enderrack or Lightstone, or Diorite 2: Electric Boogaloo.
Maybe a grass/mycelium/nylium variant for the end but it is not needed in my opinion, it makes it feel too lively, bare stone has the vibe of "This place is dead and resourceless, these lifeforms here are struggling to survive".
Instead of a new hyper OP end-themed ore, add coal ore, no super OP weapon tier (that is beyond unnecessary), or a new system-defining ore as proposed in https://youtu.be/Oj-0CJ7yPGk?si=gEdvJgqmYnASZwZi, just add like coal or something, or if you're feeling adventurous, iron ore or diamond ore. Gold is for the Nether, Iron could be for the End, both are mid tier and extremely important to the game, and both could have a dimension of them, iron also fits the end aesthetically, because it is white, and endstone is extremely light yellow.
IMO Nether Quartz and Nether Gold is the inspiration to go after. Not Netherite. Some purely aesthetic, low level, thematic ore fit for the dimension only available there, alongside an overworld ore revamped for the dimension as another mostly thematic purposes.
I propose: End Coal (Based on Nether's gold ores), and Ender Mica (Based On Nether's Quartz), the coal is the overworld alternative that is low level, super common, and useful in the dimension, no need to bring coal for your furnace. Ender Mica is the cool dimension specific ore that is not necessary to mine, and is mostly for decorative purposes.
Make the phantom be an end mob not an overworld mob.
Zero passive mobs, this is the fuckin End baby, you better hope you weren't preparing to make friends, neutral mobs are the best you got.
Literally nothing else.
No seriously don't be bringing anything else, these ideas make the end interesting while still being a fucking wasteland that you absolutely cannot survive in long term without heavy preparation.
WHAT NOT TO DO:
DO NOT MAKE IT EXTREMELY LIVABLE OR LUSH.
Do not add a new tier above Netherite.
Do not make the dimension extremely harsh via OP mobs, the dimension needs to be harsh via the environment, if you don't bring enough food, you are gonna be eating chorus, or starving. You forget to bring backup tools, good luck buddy, this dimension is as barren as your love for the weather system. The dimension needs to keep in mind that not many players ever go there in survival, so those that do, are prepared, but the update might make new players enter unprepared, and punish them not with minibosses as common as chickens, but with a sharp lack of survivability, and food.
